Box Hill Institute is one of Australia's premier, multipurpose TAFE institutes that prides itself on its ability to deliver a broad range of vocational education and training services.
The Institute has been acknowledged as Victoria's No. 1 TAFE Institute in 2004 and 2005.
The Institute has four main campuses located within easy reach of Melbourne's central business district. Box Hill Institute offers over 400 full-time and part-time courses covering a wide range of subject disciplines and delivery methods, as well as around 300 short courses. All courses provide students with a variety of pathways to employment, promotion and further tertiary study.
Now delivering TAFE degrees in Applied Music, Computer Systems (Networking) and Biotechnology & Innovation, the Institute has more than 35,000 student enrolments each year with an increasing number coming from overseas.

John has been Box Hill Institute’s Chief Executive Officer since early December 1999. He was formerly director of Gordon Institute of TAFE from January 1996 until December 1999.
He is responsible for educational leadership within the Institute. This includes strategic positioning and promotion of the Institute within government, industry and the community as well as strategic planning and development. He is also accountable for the Institute’s business growth, management and financial performance and is the Managing Director of Box Hill Enterprises.
Professional Background
John has wide experience in vocational education and training (VET) across areas of responsibility such as a strategic and business planning; business development; marketing and public relations; information services; international education; VET program delivery; development of flexible delivery modes; entrepreneurial and commercial activities; VET research; quality and customer service initiatives; and financial management.
His previous roles include:
- Gordon Institute Chief Executive Officer from January 1996 to December 1999
- Box Hill Institute of TAFE Deputy Director from January 1990 to December 1995
- Various management roles over a period of 10 years at Chisholm Institute of TAFE
- Glenroy Technical School secondary teacher for four years
- Employment at Arthur Andersen & Co. (one of the big six accounting firms), working in their small business management and business consultancy areas
- Accounting teacher
John's interests include community involvement in sports administration. He is Basketball Australia's President and Chairman.

Jennifer has had twenty-two years experience at Box Hill Institute having worked as a teacher, advanced skills teacher, industry program coordinator and centre manager - Industry Education and Training.
Jennifer has worked across the Institute. She has also worked with stakeholders in the higher education and vocational education and training sectors to develop, implement and support Institute-wide initiatives across sectors, including business, extractive, government, health and community services, hospitality, manufacturing, petrochemical, and pulp and paper.

Areas of Responsibility
Melanie has coordinated Global Education Network (GEN) activities for more than four years. Melanie liaises with the GEN support network of colleges on behalf of Box Hill Institute. Her role also includes the marketing and promotion of opportunities and recruitment of participants for GEN projects, delivery of pre-departure orientation programs and the provision of ongoing support to participants for the duration of their exchange. Melanie works with Box Hill Institute’s departments to plan educational programs for groups and individuals visiting from other GEN partners, and advises on and facilitates accommodation, recreational and academic activity for exchange participants.
Professional Background
Melanie completed six years of secondary teaching in regional Victoria and the United Kingdom before undertaking a role of counselling, support, work placement and case management with disadvantaged youth. Melanie joined Box Hill Institute in 1998 and has worked in several administrative roles coordinating short courses and providing administrative support to the General Manger, Teaching & Learning. She was the Personal Assistant to the Executive Director, Learning & Academic Affairs for five years prior to her current role.
