Kirkwood Community College

Kirkwood Community College
Since its founding in 1966, Kirkwood Community College has been dedicated to providing lifelong learning opportunities in eastern Iowa. Kirkwood is a comprehensive community college, with over 110 college credit programs in arts, sciences and career preparation fields. Many of these programs transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Kirkwood also completed over 70,000 course registrations in our Continuing Education programs in the past year, providing practical knowledge and life-enriching experiences for all ages.
Kirkwood's award-winning programs and national reputation have drawn students from all ages and all parts of the world. (Amazingly, studies show that in the last three years alone, Kirkwood students have taken their transfer credits to colleges and universities in 50 states and dozens of foreign countries!) We are also proud to be the host campus for Community Colleges for International Development. This consortium of over 100 two-year institutions seeks out creative projects and solutions that span the globe in search of partnerships and alliances for the good of higher education.
Kirkwood is a leading member of the prestigious League for Innovation in the Community College. This invitation-only group of 19 two-year colleges explores creative solutions and future-oriented processes to answer the needs of the community college cohort throughout North America. We were one of the founding colleges in the League and were recently re-accredited to this exclusive group.
In addition to its 585-acre main campus, Kirkwood operates ten learning centers in the seven-county college service area, providing 'close-to-home' classes, career counseling and other Kirkwood services. The average age of a Kirkwood student is about 24 - coincidentally, the approximate average class size in all credit programs. From an on-campus child care center to the Heritage Agency on Aging services to older Iowans, Kirkwood truly offers 'Learning for Your Lifetime.'
